IOWA – On the last Friday in May, Governor Terry Branstad of Iowa announced his plans to sign a bill legalizing cannabis oil for use in treating chronic severe epilepsy. We are happy to see another public official heed his constituents’ calls for access to medicine that could ease the suffering of their children and fellow Iowans. NEW YORK – In the last week of May, the New York State Assembly once again passed a bill legalizing cannabis for medical use. According to the New York Times, this is the fifth time in seven years that the State Assembly has passed cannabis legislation. While similar bills have historically died at the hands of state Senate Republicans, New York Senator Diane J. Savino (D) has expressed full confidence in the legislature’s ability to pass the medical marijuana bill she has sponsored before the end of this legislative session on June 19. Read the full story…

CANADA – Earlier this month, Health Canada registered the country’s first clinical trial for medical cannabis in an effort to further legitimize cannabis as a viable form of medication. A clinical trial exploring the efficacy and side effects of vaporized cannabis use will provide Canadian doctors with groundbreaking knowledge and insight that could ease their hesitations to recommend cannabis as medicine to patients in need and elevate the international medical community’s understanding of cannabis. RECREATIONAL UPDATE
DENVER, CO – Cannabis industry professionals and investors gathered in Denver on May 29 for the Cannabis Capital Summit, the first-ever industry investment conference of its kind. The event brought more than 300 registrants from across the country and included panel discussions, pitches and an expo where innovative cannabis entrepreneurs introduced new products and services to the market.
